Kozhikode: The residents of Kannadikkal are in mourning following the tragic death of 30-year-old Arjun, whose body was recovered from the Gangavali River on September 25. Arjun had been missing since July 16, when his lorry was caught in a landslide on the Panvel-Kanyakumari National Highway while returning to Edavanna after transporting acacia logs from Belgaum.
Arjun, who left home with dreams and aspirations, returned to his family's courtyard for the last time on the 82nd day after the incident, leaving behind a legacy of unfulfilled hopes. His return was marked by deep sorrow as family members, including his wife, mother, and siblings, wept for the son, husband, and brother they could not see before he was laid to rest.
Among the mourners was Arjun’s young son, who awaited his father's return with tears in his eyes. Friends and relatives gathered from various parts of the town to pay their respects. Arjun had several plans left to do for his family, including attending his sister's wedding, assisting his child with studies, and painting their home.
In a call made just days before his accident, Arjun expressed his excitement about returning home, saying, “Once I return, we can paint the house. I’ll ask mom to prepare a list of things we need to buy. Dad you don’t need to worry.”
The emotional farewell saw a long procession of mourners, as the path from Kannadikkal to Arjun's house overflowed with people who paid their last respects.
The recovery of Arjun's body and the lorry took place following extensive efforts to retrieve the vehicle, which had been submerged since the landslide. Using two cranes, rescuers managed to pull the lorry ashore, where they discovered a bone fragment believed to belong to Arjun inside the cabin. This fragment was then sent to the district hospital for examination.
