Kozhikode: After keeping police on their toes by erratically going towards Kozhikode city without police detail,  Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan arrived at Kozhikode’s busy SM Street. He told the media that he had arrived at the place to purchase ‘Kozhikode Halwa’. Amidst tight police securityThe Governor interacted with the kids in the street and tasted ‘Halwa’ from one of the stores as well.

Arif Mohammed Khan expressed his happiness over the warm welcome and reasserted that he will always be indebted to the common people in Kerala for the love that they have always shown towards him.

Scores of people had gathered in SM Street just to greet the Governor. After clicking selfies and interacting with the people, Arif Mohammed Khan left the place around 1:15 PM.

Earlier, the Governor had made it clear to the police that he does not require a convoy and said, “If they want to attack me, let them come directly. If the police are kept away from me, the Chief Minister will be first to ask the SFI activists to stay away as he knows the consequences of this matter very well”.

Khan paid a surprise visit to the busy street in the heart of Kozhikode city just hours before he was slated to inaugurate a seminar on the varsity campus at around 3:30 PM. This is the only official programme he will be attending in his three-day stint at the university campus. After the seminar, the Governor will return to the guesthouse and then to Thiruvananthapuram by 8 PM. Tight security will be maintained on Calicut University campus until then. SFI has been planning to further intensify protest on Monday, reports say. In view of this, more policemen are being deployed on campus.
