Thiruvananthapuram: The upcoming cinema conclave, tasked with addressing issues highlighted in the Justice Hema Committee report, has encountered controversy following the reported inclusion of actor and CPM MLA M Mukesh in its film policy committee.

The uproar stems from accusations by actress Minu Muneer, who alleged that Mukesh, along with other prominent figures, subjected her to physical and verbal abuse in 2013. These allegations emerged after State Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian announced that the government had acknowledged the findings and recommendations of the Justice Hema Committee. The government plans to convene the cinema conclave within the next two months to tackle the pressing issues within the Malayalam film industry.

Objections have been raised by eminent writer Sara Joseph and Kerala Chalachitra Academy Vice-Chairman Premkumar, who criticised Mukesh's reported inclusion in the film policy committee. Joseph condemned the decision, stating, "the inclusion of Mukesh on the panel is absurd. He should resign as MLA if he has any self-respect."

Meanwhile, Mukesh has claimed he is being deliberately targeted by vested interests as he is a CPM MLA.

The female actor who accused him has also levelled sexual abuse allegations against three other prominent Malayalam actors.
