Nilambur: While declaring an open war against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the most powerful CPM leader in the state, PV Anvar MLA has opened a new political war front, reducing the UDF, the main opposition in the state, to mere spectators. Speaking to reporters at Nilambur on Thursday, Anvar launched a relentless attack against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his political secretary P Sasi, and ADGP MR Ajith Kumar, leaving the CPM leadership red-faced and party supporters embarrassed over this latest development.

During his extraordinary two-hour long press conference, Anvar labelled P Sasi a “wild thief” and claimed that Sasi himself is distorting the public image of the Chief Minister. He stated that during a meeting with the Chief Minister, he remarked that Vijayan once shone like a burning sun in Kerala, but that the sun has lost its sheen. He also told the Chief Minister that his political graph, which once reached the pinnacle of 100, have now plunged toward zero. “I also told the Chief Minister that the common party workers and people of Kerala hate him,” Anvar said.

He expressed that it was the Chief Minister's betrayal that forced him to turn against him. “The office of Chief Minister stays on top of a volcano and it could burst out at any moment,” he warned. “I would like to say that the Chief Minister’s office is controlled by P Sasi and ADGP Ajith Kumar. As the minister of the Home department, the Chief Minister is a failure and has no right to continue in that position,” Anvar added.

“What I want to say to the ordinary comrades of CPM is that this party belongs to the common party workers. The leadership is the roof of the party, while the foundation is the common party workers. Should this party stand for a Riyas alone? The party workers should consider this,” he stated. “I have been continuously saying that common party workers are being treated poorly by the police in the state. Party workers share my sentiments regarding this. The attitude of the police towards minorities also needs to be addressed. I have been questioning this attitude for some time now,” he said.

“I discussed serious matters with the Chief Minister because I considered him like a father. When I presented my grievances, I saw that he is helpless. From now on, I will not discuss anything regarding the police of the state with the Chief Minister, as P Sasi, the ‘wild thief,’ is controlling the police,” Anvar concluded.

The range of allegations leveled by Anvar has already unsettled the party, as politburo members MA Baby and A Vijayaraghavan have expressed their dissatisfaction over Anvar’s outburst against the party and the Chief Minister. They pointed out that it was only a couple of days ago that the CPM secretariat had asked Anvar to stop making public statements against the party.

CPM state secretary MV Govindan also dismissed Anvar’s allegations as baseless. He stated that the party would take appropriate action regarding this situation immediately after the politburo meeting, which will be held in New Delhi on Friday.
