Thiruvananthapuram: Even as the controversy regarding PV Anvar MLA’s allegations against ADGP MR Ajith Kumar and the Chief Minister’s Office flares up political discussions, fingers are pointed at the lackluster attitude of the police regarding the MLA’s confession that he had hacked phones. It was during the press conference in which he had leveled allegations against ADGP Ajith Kumar that Anvar said that he too had hacked phones as part of his attempt to unearth corruption at the top level. He also expressed his willingness to face the legal consequences regarding this.
The armed forces in the country would be given legal permissions to hack the phone calls of persons in matters involving national security. It would be the Home Secretary who gives the permission on such occasions, under certain conditions. But the law of the land does not give the right to an individual to hack the phone of another individual.
It is said that Anvar might have either misused the technical support from the police force or might have hacked the calls. Legal experts said that both are serious violations of the law.
As of now, no cases have been registered in connection with the controversy as the focus of the investigation under DGP is checking the veracity of the allegations only. Usually, the police do not adopt such an investigation style. Legal experts point out that, since Anvar’s allegations included murder, phone hacking, and gold smuggling, a case could be registered.
Though Anvar had held two press conferences, he had not released any phone conversations he had hacked. Instead, he released a phone call made to him. Now, it is said that the police would take the statement of Anvar regarding the allegations. They would also collect evidence regarding his allegations. If the investigation team could collect evidence regarding phone hacking, they could recommend a case against him as well.
