Kozhikode, Kerala: Amid rising demand for Thiruvonam Bumper lottery tickets, the V.K. Lottery Stall at Koyilandy bus stand reported a theft. The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 6 pm, with 52 Thiruvonam Bumper lottery tickets stolen from the stall.

The stall staffer, Mustafa, filed a complaint with the police, highlighting that similar incidents had occurred previously. He reported that 22 tickets were stolen two weeks ago, and three more went missing just two days earlier.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the stall to identify the culprits. The complaint is under active investigation.

Thiruvonam Bumper details

This year’s Thiruvonam Bumper offers a first prize of ₹25 crore, with each ticket priced at ₹500. The total prize money for the draw is ₹140 crore. This is the fourth Thiruvonam Bumper since the first prize was raised to ₹25 crore.

Last year, 80 lakh tickets were printed, with around 8.5 lakh remaining unsold. In 2023, 85 lakh tickets were printed, and 75,76,096 were sold. In 2022, 67.50 lakh tickets were printed, and 66.55 lakh were sold.

Tickets from other districts are currently in higher demand than local ones. Agents are exchanging tickets among themselves and displaying the respective district’s name to boost sales, reflecting growing competition in the lottery market.
