
Kannur: Gokuldas and Derrin have been providing COVID assistance in their ambulance for the last 5 months.
Gokuldas, an 108 ambulance driver, and Derrin Babu, an ambulance technician, started their COVID service on March 13. They are still active on August 21, without taking any kind of break.
They took a Pazhayangadi native, with COVID symptoms, to Kannur Government Medical College in their first trip. For the last 150 days, they have been in and around Pazhayangadi taluk hospital, ready to go.
Two free government (108) ambulances were deployed for COVID duty in Kannur from March 13. One was in Thalassery zone while the other was in Pazhayangadi zone. Gokuldas and Derrin are working in the ambulance at Pazhayangadi zone.
They have taken hundreds of people, including children, to the medical college on a regular basis. Derrin, who completed her BSc General Nursing along with a Post Basic Bsc Nursing degree from Kannur Government Medical College, is the daughter of Babu Pallikkudi and Baby Petricia.
P. V. Gokuldas, who has been a driver for more than four years, is the son of Sivadasan and Geetha. GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute in Hyderabad is in charge of 108 ambulance services. Abhijith Sahadevan is the district coordinator.
Gokuldas and Derrin said that they transferred foreign returnees from the airports in the first stage. They used to wear PPE kits all the time then. The two have been very careful and have not contracted the disease.
