Kochi: A young man who threatened to commit suicide by climbing the roof of platforms at Aluva railway station was safely brought down by Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials after an hour and a half on Wednesday morning. Train services through Aluva, which were disrupted during the incident, have now resumed.

The incident occurred around 6 a.m., when the man, a resident of West Bengal, climbed the roofs of platforms 2 and 3 and threatened to jump onto the Overhead electric lines (OLE). He warned that anyone who approached him would provoke him to jump. To prevent accidents, the railway authorities temporarily switched off the power supply to the overhead lines, causing disruption to train services on the Ernakulam–Thrissur and Thrissur–Ernakulam routes.

The fire and rescue team arrived at the station but could not immediately convince the man to come down. The RPF then contacted the youth’s family via video call to persuade him. Seizing a moment when his attention was diverted, RPF officials jumped from the overpass onto the roof, caught him and brought him down safely.

Train services were disrupted for approximately 45 minutes, affecting long-distance trains at multiple stations. While services have now resumed, several trains remain delayed.
