Thrissur: In the light of recent revelations regarding the Kodakara hawala scandal, the Kerala police have decided to reinvestigate the case. The special investigation team, which had previously probed the matter and submitted charge sheets in two phases before the Irinjalakuda First Class Magistrate Court, has reopened the case and started new investigation. The team has taken statements from BJP district committee office secretary Tirur Satheesh and DySP VK Raju, who was head of the Special Investigation Team earlier.
On Friday, Satheesh reported that he had received life threats from unknown individuals over the phone. Following his media revelations, the Thrissur Medical College police have arranged security for his residence. Satheesh said that he would repeat what he had said before the media and would also disclose more details regarding the case. He mentioned that, due to pressure from BJP leadership, he had given false statements to the police earlier. According to his latest claims, he had transported Rs. 3.5 crores to the BJP office in six sacks.
On Friday evening, police officials met Satheesh to record his statement regarding these recent developments. In his earlier statement to the police, he had claimed that the sacks contained election materials. He expressed his intention to change his statement before the court. The police plan to seek the court's permission on Monday to submit a revised charge sheet based on his latest revelations.
Although Satheesh alleged that the hawala money of Rs. 3.5 crores seized at Kodakara was being transferred from the BJP office, the state leadership of the party has vehemently denied this. The new development has placed the party in a difficult position during the byelection. It was during the 2021 assembly election that the vehicle carrying the money was hijacked, resulting in the theft of Rs. 3.5 crores.
