Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Secretary Dr V Venu on Monday gave strict instructions to ensure the use of Malayalam language for issuing government orders and letters. All departmental secretaries should ensure this and the progress will be evaluated in the monthly review meetings, stated the chief secretary’s circular.
According to the directive, all orders, circulars, letters and instructions issued by various government departments should be in Malayalam. At present, several departments continue to use English even in orders issued on the basis of cabinet decisions.
In April 2017, the state government had ordered the use of Malayalam in all government orders, except for those special cases which demand the use of English and the state’s minority languages, Tamil and Kannada.
The order had also proposed action against those officials who failed to comply with the decision.
