Haripad: In a shocking incident, a woman killed her one and half month-old infant by throwing it in a well when its crying grew intolerable. Police informed that the accused Deepthi (26) gave the statement that the baby used to cry often after its ‘Noolukettu’ ceremony -and that this annoyed her. Deepthi had undergone counselling following this. But, when the baby cried repeatedly on Saturday, Deepthi took the infant and threw it into the well on the premises of her residence.

Deepthi, who is currently undergoing treatment at Medical College in Vandanam for mental distress, is under the surveillance of police. Initially, the case was registered citing unnatural death. When the police confirmed that the infant was thrown to the well, charges of murder were imposed on the mother. Deepthi’s arrest will be recorded soon after she leaves the hospital.

The infant was brought dead to the government hospital in Haripad on Saturday. Deepthi’s relatives claimed that the baby fell into a plastic vessel filled with water while bathing. The doctors who were suspicious about the death, passed on the information to the police.

The autopsy conducted on Sunday revealed that the infant had drowned and Deepthi confessed to committing the crime following a detailed interrogation.
