Alappuzha: Aswith, a native of Kozhikode, was fortunate to escape a tragic accident that claimed the lives of his friends on their way to the cinema in Alappuzha. Recalling the incident, Aswith revealed that he had planned to join his friends for a movie, but a call from his home changed his plans. During the long conversation, he asked his friends to go ahead, thinking he would be late. Devdeep, another friend, chose not to get in the car, believing Aswith would be alone and decided to accompany him on a bike.

As the two made their way through the Kalarcode area, they noticed the police diverting vehicles due to an accident. They stopped to look and saw a Tavera car being cut open with people being pulled out. The first person Aswith noticed was Muhammed Ibrahim, a friend who had only been with them for 20 days, but Aswith couldn’t immediately identify him, as he was among the injured, lying in a pool of blood.

Initially believing that none of their friends were involved, Aswith and Devdeep continued on their journey. They tried calling their friends repeatedly, but no one answered. Assuming the movie had already started, as it was already 9:45 pm, they thought little of it. However, their unease grew as they wondered how all of them had not picked up even after repeated calls.

Their fears were confirmed when they arrived at the emergency department of Alappuzha Medical College Hospital, where the injured were being treated. It was there that they first saw the bodies of Muhammed Ibrahim and Muhammed Abdul Jabbar but still didn't recognize them. l.

But when Aswith and Devdeep saw another injured person lying nearby, they realized it was Shreedeep, one of their close friends, and that their friends were the ones who had met with the accident. Aswith was staying as a paying guest, while the rest of his friends stayed in the college hostel.

The tragedy occurred on Monday night when a few first-year MBBS students at Kerala's Alappuzha Medical College were on their way to watch a movie. The ten students travelling in the car collided with a state-owned Kerala State Road Transportation Corporation (KSRTC) passenger bus.

The victims were identified as Ayush Shaji (19) from Kottayam, Shreedeep Vatsan (19) from Palakkad, B. Devanandan (19) from Malappuram, Mohammed Abdul Jabbar (19) from Kannur, and Mohammed Ibrahim (19) from Lakshadweep.
