New Delhi: Health Minister Veena George informed that Union Health Minister J P Nadda has assured that the demand for AIIMS in Kerala will be considered sympathetically.

Veena said that Nadda revealed in Tuesday’s meeting that Kerala was not given priority as the health sector in the state is excellent.

There will be facilities, including Ayush block, in the AIIMS. Setting up of AIIMS in Kerala will help in a big way for its integrated research. Kerala has been demanding AIIMS for a long time.
As per the terms and conditions stipulated by the Centre, measures, including acquisition of land at Kinaloor in Kozhikode, were completed.

Veena said that at least this time she hopes to get the AIIMS which Kerala deserves.

In the meeting, the minister demanded that the central share of the National Health Mission for 2023-24 should be made available. This amount is required for effective field-level work. This was also reiterated in the context of communicable diseases, including Nipah.

The Union Minister has suggested taking action after specifically examining the liability matters if any in connection with the funding for projects implemented under the National Health Mission.
