Kannur: The chargesheet in the ADM Naveen Babu death case is in its final stages, with the police preparing to submit it in court soon. The High Court Division Bench has not found any faults with the investigation, paving the way for the chargesheet’s filing.
According to sources, the investigation team has not identified any reason for Naveen Babu’s death other than the speech made by former District Panchayat President P P Divya at his farewell ceremony. The chargesheet, which runs to nearly 100 pages, includes related documents and scientific test results. The statements of 82 witnesses have been recorded, including those of the Collector, Collectorate employees, the individual who applied for the petrol pump licence, and Naveen Babu’s wife and family members.
The remaining aspects of the investigation include the scientific test results of the rope suspected to have been used in the suicide and the stain found on his innerwear. The case diary has already been submitted to the High Court, and efforts are underway to retrieve it. Investigators believe the chargesheet will be ready for submission as soon as the case diary is received.
The case is being handled by a special investigation team led by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), with the City Police Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner T.K. Ratnakumar and Town Police Inspector Sreejith Koderi also part of the probe.
It is learnt that no suicide note was found on either of Naveen Babu’s phones. It is reported that investigators have also ruled out allegations that a suicide note or other information on his phone was destroyed, stating that such claims are baseless.
A detailed examination of the body and the room where the incident occurred did not yield any evidence of a suicide note. Additionally, there is no evidence linking Prasanth, the individual accused of bribing Naveen Babu, to the case.
Doctors have not raised any suspicions of foul play. The chargesheet reportedly indicates that the inquest findings do not suggest any reason to suspect that Naveen Babu was killed before being hanged.
