Thiruvananthapuram: The tussle between two senior police officers in the state is heading to court. ADGP P. Vijayan is considering approaching the court against the statement given by ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar in connection with the Karipur gold smuggling case, based on a complaint filed by MLA P.V. Anvar. This move comes in the context of no action being taken on the complaint filed two months ago. Permission from the government will also be sought for this.
Following the allegations, the police chief had recorded statement from Ajith Kumar. In his statement, Ajith Kumar claimed that SP Sujith Das had mentioned Vijayan's involvement in the Karipur gold smuggling case. However, Vijayan responded that this statement was false and demanded a comprehensive investigation into the matter in a letter to the police chief, which was later forwarded to the government. Sujith Das had previously denied making such a statement.
Ajith Kumar's statement also alleged that Vijayan had links with a Thiruvananthapuram-based businessman named Mujeeb, who is connected to Ajith Kumar also. Mujeeb was reportedly involved in the food distribution program led by Vijayan during the COVID-19 period. Additionally, Ajith Kumar's statement also mentioned that Vijayan was associated with a person named Aashiq, who had demanded an investigation into the disappearance of a businessman named Mami.
This connection was allegedly through a Malappuram-based organisation called ‘Nanma.’ Vijayan filed a complaint claiming that Ajith Kumar's statement was an attempt to falsely implicate him.
