Kollam: Hailing deceased Oommen Chandy as a noble soul, RSP state secretary Shibu Baby John condemned the malicious campaigns that were run against the former CM by the CPM activists in the state. Shiju termed the remarks made on Chandy’s daughter by CPM stalwart VS Achuthanandan in the assembly as absolutely disgusting. 

“Over the last few days, I noticed several leaders showering praises on Oommen Chandy recollecting how great a leader he was, but I would rather ask them to introspect; would rather remind them of the witch hunt they had launched against Chandy when he assumed office as the chief minister of the state.”

“I have to tell you. The CPM was shaken by the very first ‘Janasambarka paripady’ (mass contact programme) conducted by Oommen Chandy. The electoral wins at Piravam and Neyyattinkara almost assured a continuous second term for UDF in power. This gave the CPM leadership sleepless nights. They played dirty politics, launched baseless and uncivilised campaigns against Oommen associating him with random women; CPM showed its true colour by then,” said Shibu Baby John.

“Oommen Chandy had always kept secrets of his party men and surprisingly of his opponents as well. He never resorted to personal attacks for political glory. It’s time for everyone, especially the CPM leadership to reflect upon themselves, and acknowledge their mistakes. They can plead for forgiveness,” concluded the RSP secretary.
