Kochi, Kerala: Actress Rini Ann George, the first person to speak publicly against expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil, has alleged that two unidentified men issued death threats outside her Paravur home on Friday night. Police have begun examining CCTV footage as part of the investigation.

According to her complaint, the first incident took place around 9.30 pm when a man on a scooter reached her home and tried to break open the house gate. He fled as the family stepped out.

Around 10 pm, a second man arrived on a motorcycle and shouted that she would be killed “if she dare to go against Mamkoottathil” and if anyone touched him. He escaped when the family came outside again.

Rini was the earliest voice to publicly highlight Mamkoottathil’s alleged misconduct.

In August, she referred—without naming him—to inappropriate behaviour by “a young politician”, adding that other women had suffered similar experiences. She recalled warning him that she would inform Congress leadership, to which he responded with “who cares”, a phrase Mamkoottathil himself earlier used before meida while dismissing the allegations.

Her remarks prompted a Crime Branch inquiry, though the initial investigation stalled as no directly affected woman had approached the police.

The case progressed when a woman accusing Mamkoottathil of rape approached the Chief Minister, resulting in a formal rape case.

Later, the KPCC received an anonymous email alleging another rape by the Palakkad MLA, leading to a separate case being registered.

When a Thiruvananthapuram court denied him bail, Rini described it as an early step towards justice and said she faced severe cyberattacks after speaking out.

“This is just a beginning step towards justice. I share the happiness of the victims, and I believe there are more people who have survived similar misconduct,” she said.

She refused to comment on whether the Congress attempted to shield Mamkoottathil, adding: “As said in Sathyameva Jayathe, truth will always emerge.”

Referring to online attacks, she said: “This is the first indication that the allegations were not false. I had to reveal the details after undergoing severe strain. But I am extremely happy that I could be a reason for other sisters to get justice.”

What is Mamkoottathil’s current legal position?

After the Thiruvananthapuram court rejected his bail plea, Mamkoottathil’s legal team moved the Kerala High Court.

On Saturday, the High Court granted him interim protection from arrest until December 15. He currently remains on the run.
