New Delhi: Actor Siddique filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Supreme Court on Wednesday, seeking a stay on the Kerala High Court's decision that denied him bail in a sexual abuse case. The petition was submitted by advocate Ranjeeta Rohtagi, a junior to senior advocate Mukul Rohtagi, around 7 PM. Mukul Rohtagi, who previously represented actor Dileep in a similar case, will also appear for Siddique.

On Thursday, Ranjeeta Rohtagi will email the Mentioning Officer at 10 AM, requesting a hearing for Friday. The officer will forward the email to the Registrar of Judicial Administration. The Chief Justice will review the matter when he arrives for lunch and would decide whether to list the case immediately based on its urgency. Sources within the Supreme Court indicated that anticipatory bail petitions are typically listed the following day.

The petition points out the delay in filing the complaint against Siddique, noting that the alleged incident occurred in 2016, while the case was registered only in 2024. Siddique has no criminal record and has expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation, arguing that custodial interrogation is unnecessary.

Meanwhile, the Kerala government has filed a caveat in the Supreme Court, requesting to present its arguments before a verdict on Siddique's anticipatory bail plea is rendered. The government plans to appoint former Solicitor General Ranjith Kumar as its counsel. Besides this, the survivor has filed a caveat against Siddique's bail plea, with renowned advocate Vrinda Grover representing her in the Supreme Court.
