Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Jayasurya has denied the sexual assault allegations against him, asserting that he is a “living martyr” of false accusations. He stated that he knows the woman who made the allegations, but has no other connection with her. He was speaking to the media outside the Cantonment Police Station in Thiruvananthapuram after the interrogation in the case on Tuesday morning.

"I am facing two false accusations. A woman has been talking in various places, implying that it is me, but later she has denied it on several instances. She claims to have had a bad experience during a shoot in Thodupuzha in 2013. However, there was no such shooting in 2013; that film's shooting had concluded in 2011. The shoot took place in Koothattukulam, not in Thodupuzha. I don’t understand why such allegations are being made. There is a claim that an incident happened outside the Secretariat in 2008. We only had a two-hour permission to film outside the Secretariat for a music video. I don’t even know how she got there," Jayasurya said.

"I will fight this legally until the accusations against me are proven false. I believe I am a living martyr. I have met the person making the allegations. It was part of a charity initiative. I have no other friendship with them,” Jayasurya said, and sought to know, "If we were friends, why are they coming forward with such allegations now?"

Jayasuriya had reported to the police station for the questioning in the sexual assault case, registered on the basis of a complaint by an actress from Kochi. He was scheduled to appear at the station at 11 am. However, to steer clear of media attention, he arrived early at 8:15 am. The interrogation wrapped up before 11:30 am.

The actress, who resides in Aluva, lodged the complaint with the police two months ago. She alleged that Jayasurya sexually assaulted her in 2008 during the filming of a movie directed by Balachandra Menon. The incident reportedly took place at the Secretariat, where the shooting was held.

In her statement to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), the actress claimed that Jayasurya grabbed her from behind as she was exiting a restroom during the shoot. She also alleged that the actor later invited her to his flat that evening.

Jayasurya has denied the allegations and had applied for anticipatory bail in the High Court. However, the prosecution argued that anticipatory bail was unnecessary, as the offence was bailable and station bail could be granted. There is also another similar case pending against him.

The Malayalm film industry has been facing several sexual allegations after the release of Hema Committee Report that looked into the injustices meted out to the female fraternity of the industry.
