Kochi: Kerala High Court has granted conditional bail to actor Baburaj in connection with a sexual assault case. The actor has been granted bail with stringent conditions and the court has directed him to cooperate with the investigation. He has been asked to surrender before the investigating officer within ten days as well. It was the bench of Justice CS Dias that considered the anticipatory bail petition of Baburaj. The bail was granted considering the delay in filing the complaint.
The case against Baburaj alleges that he sexually assaulted a junior actress by promising her a role in films. The actress alleged that the assault occurred both at Baburaj's house in Aluva and at a resort in Idukki. The Adimali police registered the case. In response, Baburaj approached the High Court.
The complaint came from a junior artist, a former employee at the actor's resort, shortly after Baburaj was elected Joint Secretary of the actor's association, AMMA. The actress accused Baburaj of taking her to his Aluva residence under the pretense of offering a chance in a film and then raping her. She claimed that she was able to escape only the following day and also mentioned that other girls she knew had similar experiences with Baburaj.
Meanwhile, Baburaj clarified to Mathrubhumi.com that the allegations against him were orchestrated. He stated that in 2019, he was residing in Munnar, not in Aluva. The house in Aluva was in poor condition, and it was only during the COVID-19 period in 2020 that he renovated it and started living there. Baburaj vehemently denied the allegations, claiming they were completely false. He said that the goal was to undermine those associated with the organisation and that the current situation allows people to make any kind of false accusations against anybody.
