Palakkad SP submits report recommending action against DySP Umesh over allegations of molesting a woman in custody and taking bribes.

Palakkad: An investigation report has implicated Vadakara DySP A Umesh in the allegation of molesting a woman who was taken into custody. The incident is said to have taken place when Umesh was serving as the SHO of Vadakkenchery police station. Palakkad District Police Chief Ajit Kumar IPS has submitted a report recommending action against Umesh. Now, the DGP must issue orders to register a case and conduct further investigation. The incident surfaced through the suicide note of Cherpulassery SHO Binu Thomas. Binu Thomas died on November 15. The details from the suicide note recovered by police at the time came out only recently.
The incident reportedly took place in 2014, when Binu Thomas was an SI and Umesh was CI at Vadakkenchery. The revelation says that Umesh, who was then the Circle Inspector, molested a young woman who had been taken into custody for immoral activities. The SP’s report states that Umesh committed the act with the assistance of Binu Thomas. The report also alleges that they took bribes from those detained for immoral activities and let them go without registering cases.
A statement from the woman mentioned in the case was recorded recently. Based on this, the investigation report was prepared.
