Kozhikode: The sponsor family of Abdul Rahim, who has been incarcerated for 18 years in a Saudi prison, has declared their willingness to pardon him upon the acceptance of compensation. This decision was conveyed by the victim's family through their legal representative to the Saudi court, which has duly acknowledged the submission.
It is now imperative for the Saudi court to grant permission for Abdul Rahim's family to provide the compensation. Once this permission is granted, an account will be opened, and after addressing any technicalities, the funds can be transferred, potentially through the Indian embassy.
As of now, the collected amount for Abdul Rahim remains deposited in ICICI and Federal Bank branches in Kerala, pending transfer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Subsequent steps involve the Ministry transferring the funds via the Indian Embassy in Riyadh to the sponsor family's bank account, or through alternative means as directed by the court or government.
Legal experts anticipate that the court will provide instructions on the money transfer method during the next sitting, facilitating the process for Abdul Rahim's release. With the sponsor family's willingness to forgive, hopes are high for expedited proceedings.
The auditing of the collected amount has been concluded, with the legal trust for Rahim planning a conference in Ramanattukara to seek approval for the audit report's release. This conference, scheduled for Saturday, aims to ensure transparency in the handling of funds, with the auditing reports set to be made public following approval.
