Kozhikode: A nine-year-old girl from Thamarassery has died due to amoebic meningoencephalitis, according to medical examination reports. The deceased, Anaya (9), daughter of Sanoop from Korangad Anappara Poyil, was a fourth-grade student at Korangad LP School.
Anaya, who developed a fever, was first taken to Thamarassery Taluk Government hospital by her family and later to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she could not be saved.
Following Anaya’s death, the family staged a protest at Thamarassery Taluk Hospital, alleging inadequate medical care. The child’s father, Sanoop, stated that Anaya had a mild fever on Wednesday night and was taken to the hospital the following morning.
Hospital authorities confirmed that Anaya received treatment for fever and vomiting symptoms, which are common in children admitted with such conditions. The hospital superintendent added that due to her high blood count and deteriorating health, Anaya was promptly referred to the Medical College Hospital for specialised care.
