Cherai (Kochi): Fishermen of Munambam harbour celebrated the catch of a huge shark weighing 500 kg on Tuesday morning. The shark was almost 12 ft long and 1.5 metre in circumference. The giant shark caught by the fishermen was kept for auction and was sold for more than Rs 50,000.
The auctioneers aimed to cut the fish and sell the pieces. Fishermen said that the flesh of such sharks is in good demand. Big hotels are the main buyers. According to the fishermen, these giant sharks known as ‘Thalayan Sraav’, are very dangerous and are man-eaters.
