Thiruvananthapuram: It has been 40 years since Kerala's beloved poet ONV Kurup penned down his iconic poem 'Bhoomikkoru Charamageetham'.
The poetry, published in Mathrubhumi Weekly on August 21, 1983, is regarded as one of the best works published by the late Jnanpith Award winner.
The central theme is around the poet's concerns about the impending death of the earth. The poetry is broadly prophetic in nature, with repercussions of global crises such as climate change and pollution observed indirectly in the poem. Poetry later became a part of school and college curricula in recent decades.
ONV recited the iconic poem for the first time at the poet's commune of the organisation 'Prakrithi Samrakshana Samithi' in the presence of Mathrubhumi editor N. V. Krishna Warrier, poet Sugathakumari, and other prominent figures.
