A record 36 wild boars were shot in Malappuram’s Kalikavu following crop damage complaints by farmers

Kalikavu (Malappuram): A total of 36 wild boars that had entered farmland were shot dead across various areas of Kalikavu panchayat in the Nilambur taluk. The operation took place on Wednesday night and marks the largest boar hunt in a single day in the district.
The search operation was launched across the panchayat in response to complaints received under the human-wildlife conflict mitigation initiative. The hunt intensified as wild boars caused extensive damage to agricultural crops. The killed animals were counted and examined by forest department officials before being buried within the station premises.
The operation was led by expert shooters listed under the M panel of the District Forest Office. All participants held valid gun licences, ensuring the hunt was conducted safely and legally.
