Thiruvananthapuram: Employees of Revenue department who have no experience working in the village office will not be promoted to village officers or equivalent post. To get appointments in these posts, the individual needs three years of service, including any or both as Clerk, Village Assistant or Special Village Officer.
For promotion to Deputy Tehsildar or Junior Superintendent or any equivalent posts, two years must be served as Village Officer. The new directive will come into effect from April 2025.
Most of the employees are not interested in working at village offices. The main reason is workload and lack of infrastructure in offices. The government aims to avoid less qualified officials with little experience getting promoted as Tehsildar and Deputy Collector.
Although no one openly opposed the decision at the meeting of the employees' organizations convened by the revenue minister, there were indications of disagreement.
