A detailed investigation may also examine whether the insignia had been used in this manner over the past three years.

Kottayam, Kerala: State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar has ordered the registration of a case against former DGP Tomin J. Thachankary for allegedly using an official insignia unlawfully after retirement.
The move follows a controversy over Thachankary travelling in a private vehicle displaying the DGP’s three-stars carrying board, despite having retired three years ago. The three-stars sign board is meant for officers serving in DGP and ADGP ranks.
Probe confirms rule violation
An inquiry by the Kottayam Superintendent of Police, initiated on the basis of visuals aired by Mathrubhumi News, found a violation of rules. The footage showed the former officer using the official insignia on his private vehicle, leading to departmental scrutiny.
Case ordered, wider probe on use over three years
Acting on the findings, the DGP directed the Kottayam SP to register a case for violations of traffic regulations and alleged misuse of official position. A detailed investigation may also examine whether the insignia had been used in this manner over the past three years.
