Thiruvananthapuram: The Vanchiyoor District Court bore witness to an extraordinary reunion, as two individuals who had found themselves on opposing sides during a violent protest at the State Secretariat three decades ago, came face to face.

Instead of reviving painful memories, it provided an opportunity for Sub-Inspector P.L. George to extend an olive branch to Public Prosecutor Dr. T. Geenakumari, seeking forgiveness for the pain he might have inadvertently caused her during the police action against her and fellow protestors.

On November 25, 1994, SFI activists staged a protest in Secretariat in response to the death of five DYFI activists in Kuthuparamba due to police firing. At that time, Geenakumari, who held the position of SFI state joint secretary, sustained a head injury during a lathi charge. George, who was the constable in the police armed force, was the one responsible for the blow to her head. The next day, photographs capturing Geenakumari with blood running down her face were published in newspapers.

Although the incident happened years ago, George continued to feel sorry for his action. After learning about the incident, a member of the Police Association decided to orchestrate the extraordinary reunion of these two individuals decades later.

Geenakumari forgave him for his actions and remarked, "he was just doing his duty for the government back then." Nevertheless, she raised the question of whether it was appropriate for the police to treat women in such a manner. Both decided to leave the past behind and departed with a smile.
