Malappuram: Two doctors and a staff nurse have been dismissed and suspended, respectively, in connection with the case of a pregnant woman who was given the wrong blood type during a transfusion at a government hospital in Malappuram, Kerala.

The action was taken following an assessment of serious misconduct. The health minister intervened in the matter and sought a report, which led to the disciplinary action.

On September 25, Ruksana, a 26-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant, was admitted to the Government Women and Children Hospital, Ponnani, due to anaemia. She was given a blood transfusion on the evening of September 29.

However, instead of receiving O negative blood, Ruksana was given B positive blood. She was immediately shifted to the Thrissur Medical College Hospital. Ruksana's health is now said to be improving.
