
Kozhikode: The 12-year-old boy who died of Nipah virus was cremated following safety protocols at Kannamparamb Cemetery in Kozhikode. Prayers were offered by health workers of Kozhikode Corporation and the relatives of the boy following protocol and wearing PPE kits. No one else from outside was allowed.
Nipah virus was confirmed in Kozhikode district with the death of the boy on Sunday early morning.
The boy died of Nipah virus at a private hospital in Kozhikode. He was admitted 4 days back due to high fever and showed symptoms of vomiting and meningitis but the situation worsened by late night. The child had high temperature of 104-degree and was on ventilator support for 4 days.
The child was admitted to a private hospital initially and then to Kozhikode Medical college and later to another multi-speciality hospital.
The family members, friends and other persons who have been in contact with the infected child have been kept under observation.
