Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala will launch a unique initiative to achieve the feat of becoming the country's first fully digital literate state.
The government will launch the project 'Digi-Kerala' on January 1, 2024, to boost digital literacy and promote government services using Information Technology to all citizens in the 14-70 age group.
Further, the project aims to decrease the increasing number of cyber crimes committed in the state.
The project draws inspiration from the initiative taken by Pullampara grama panchayat in Thiruvananthapuram in becoming the first digitally literate panchayat in India. The project also aims to create awareness about digital security and curb the spread of fake information through social media platforms.
The project will also educate the public about the safe use of mobile phone devices, audio, video and text messaging platforms, google search, uploading and downloading of images, YouTube, and other government services.
In the first phase, a census will be conducted in every household in the state from April 1 onwards. Further, volunteers will be appointed to take classes on various topics. The youngsters will also be brought in to educate the public about emerging technologies.
