Noida: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the under-construction Noida International Airport at Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar on Saturday to check the progress of the project and review the final stage of work before its inauguration.

He was joined by key officials, including District Magistrate Medha Roopam, Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, YEIDA CEO Rakesh Singh, Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M, local MLAs Dhirendra Singh and Tejpal Nagar, and project nodal officer Shailendra Bhatia. Senior representatives from the airport team, CEO Christoph Schnellmann and COO Kiran Jain also presented detailed updates on the project’s readiness.

After a site inspection, the Chief Minister chaired a high-level review meeting with district and airport authorities. He directed officials to complete the remaining work quickly and ensure smooth coordination between all departments ahead of the launch.

The Noida International Airport is being developed under a public–private partnership (PPP) model by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG.

The airport will be inaugurated in stages. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the first phase on October 30, marking a major milestone for Uttar Pradesh’s aviation infrastructure.

So far, 95% of construction work has been completed, and the first phase covers about 3,300 acres. In total, 6,700 acres of land have been acquired, while the rest is being secured. The combined cost of land and construction has reached ₹12,000 crore.

Infrastructure and expansion

In the initial phase, the airport will have one operational runway capable of handling 150 flights daily and 1.2 crore passengers per year.

As air traffic grows, a second runway will be added in the next phase. Once fully developed, the airport will spread across 11,750 acres and have five runways, making it one of the largest airports in India. It is designed to eventually handle 30 crore passengers annually.

The project’s first phase covers around 1,300 hectares and includes a single runway and one passenger terminal, which will connect major cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

By 2040, after four planned phases covering nearly 5,000 hectares, the Noida International Airport will become India’s largest by area, with the capacity to handle 70 million passengers annually.

Inauguration timeline

Officials have confirmed that the airport’s inauguration will take place on October 30, 2025, with passenger flights expected to start by the end of this year.

Final touches, including technical installations, safety checks, and operational trials, are currently underway to ensure smooth functioning once operations begin.

The opening of the first phase is expected to ease congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and significantly improve air connectivity across the National Capital Region (NCR).

Economic growth

The Jewar airport is being seen as a key driver of economic growth for Uttar Pradesh. It is expected to attract new investments, create thousands of jobs, and boost connectivity for both passengers and cargo.

Experts say the airport will transform the region into an aviation and logistics hub for North India, strengthening links between Delhi-NCR and major industrial and tourism centres.

The project aligns with the UP government’s broader goal of developing world-class infrastructure and positioning the state as a central gateway in India’s expanding aviation network.

As Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasised during his inspection, “Noida International Airport will be a symbol of Uttar Pradesh’s growth and a key pillar of India’s aviation future.”
