He highlighted the vast price differences for the same dishes across establishments, citing examples like samosas and dal tadka

New Delhi: BJP MP and actor Ravi Kishan on Wednesday appealed to the central government to introduce legislation aimed at regulating the prices, quality, and quantity of food served across eateries in the country.
Speaking during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, the Gorakhpur MP expressed concern over the vast disparities in pricing for the same food items at different establishments, ranging from roadside dhabas to upscale restaurants.
No uniformity in food pricing
"There is no uniformity of prices of single food items or dishes and quality and quantity," Ravi Kishan stated in the House.
He highlighted examples of such disparities, pointing out that a samosa might cost Rs 10 in one place, while a vada pav may be sold for Rs 100 elsewhere. Similarly, a simple dal tadka could range anywhere from Rs 100 to Rs 1000, depending on the location.
Call for standardisation
Kishan argued that such variations were unfair to consumers and demanded a standardised system to ensure people receive fair value for what they pay.
"Therefore, I demand that the government bring a law to regulate prices of food items, their quality and quantity so that customers get them at affordable prices," he said.
Segment lacks focus, says MP
The MP also remarked that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought about numerous transformative changes, this particular segment, the unregulated pricing and standards of food, has not yet received adequate attention.
