Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) vice-president Omar Abdullah reiterated his belief that exit polls are a “waste of time” as counting for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections progresses. Abdullah stated that those who “waste time” discussing exit polls deserve “ridicule.”
Abdullah's Critique of Exit Poll Predictions
Earlier on Saturday, while exit poll results were being released, Abdullah expressed astonishment at how channels continued to focus on exit polls following the recent general elections “fiasco.” He referenced the inaccurate predictions from the Lok Sabha elections, which had incorrectly projected a majority win for the BJP. In reality, the BJP fell short of the majority, but the NDA managed to form a government through alliances.
Surprising Results in Jammu and Kashmir
Several exit polls had suggested that no party would secure a dominant victory in Jammu and Kashmir. However, as results come in, the actual trends reveal a different narrative. The NC-Congress alliance is leading with 52 seats, exceeding many exit poll predictions.
The Indian National Congress (INC) alone is leading in 35 seats, a notable increase from its previous 31-seat lead in 2019. Meanwhile, the BJP is currently ahead in 26 seats, with other parties leading in 6 seats, the INLD in 1 seat, and the PDP in 3 seats.
