Kolkata: The Election Commission on Monday released detailed district-wise data on the ongoing voter list revision in West Bengal, revealing that Murshidabad has recorded the highest number of deletions, while Jhargram has the lowest.

As part of the large-scale verification exercise, around 91 lakh (9.1 million) names have been deleted from the state’s electoral rolls.

A total of 60,06,675 voters were placed under adjudication, of which 59,84,512 cases have been disposed of so far by judicial officers.

Another 22,163 cases have been resolved but are pending e-signatures, and may further increase the number of deletions once processed.

According to official figures, 32,68,119 voters have been found valid, while 27,16,393 voters have been declared invalid. These voters, now removed from the rolls, have the option to approach tribunals to seek restoration of their names.

Murshidabad district accounted for the highest number of deletions, with 4,55,137 voters marked invalid, and also recorded the highest number of cases under adjudication at 11,01,454. At the other end, Jhargram reported the lowest number of deletions, though exact figures were not specified.

 

District-wise deletion highlights:

  • Murshidabad: 4,55,137 invalid voters (highest)
  • North 24 Parganas: 3,25,666 invalid voters
  • South 24 Parganas: 2,22,929 invalid voters
  • Purba Bardhaman: Over 2 lakh invalid voters
  • Nadia: 2,08,626 invalid out of 2,67,940 cases (highest percentage)
  • Cooch Behar: Over 45% of adjudicated voters found invalid
  • Jhargram: Lowest deletions in the state

Officials said adjudication has been completed in most districts except for 10, as part of an intensive verification drive ahead of upcoming elections.

 

The Commission maintained that due process was followed, and affected individuals have the right to appeal through designated legal channels.
