Post-poll violence continued to grip West Bengal on Wednesday after rival factions of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) allegedly clashed in North 24 Parganas district’s Sandeshkhali, leaving five security personnel injured.

According to reports, the violence erupted during a late-night patrol when two groups linked to the ruling TMC got into a fierce confrontation.

The clash allegedly involved gunfire and crude bombs, triggering panic in the area. Security forces later recovered weapons from the spot as tensions remained high.

The latest incident comes amid a fresh wave of political violence across Bengal following the recently concluded elections.

In a separate incident, BJP worker Madhu Mondal died after he was allegedly assaulted by TMC supporters during a victory procession in New Town on Tuesday evening.

Police said the clash broke out in the Bhalliguri area after an argument erupted while a BJP rally was passing through the locality. Mondal was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

His death sparked outrage among BJP supporters, who allegedly retaliated by attacking houses belonging to TMC workers and staging a road blockade. Central security forces were later deployed to bring the situation under control.

Another politically sensitive killing was reported from Birbhum district’s Nanoor area, where TMC worker Abir Sheikh was hacked to death during an altercation in Santoshpur village.

Police said Sheikh, an Anchal Committee member of the TMC, died on the spot, while another individual suffered injuries in the attack. Additional police personnel were deployed in the area following rising tensions.

TMC MLA-elect Bidhan Majhi accused BJP workers of carrying out the murder, while BJP leader Shyamapada Mondal rejected the allegation and demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the incident.

The back-to-back incidents have once again brought the spotlight on Bengal’s recurring post-poll violence, with opposition parties targeting the ruling TMC over law and order concerns.
