Telangana gears up to launch heli-tourism and wellness retreats, offering stunning aerial views and immersive nature escapes across the Nallamala region.

Tourists visiting Telangana will soon get a chance to experience the state from a whole new angle, the sky! Telangana’s Tourism and Culture Minister J Krishna Rao has announced that heli-tourism services will soon begin, connecting Hyderabad with the popular destinations of Somasila and Srisailam.
Instead of spending hours on the road, travellers will be able to enjoy breathtaking aerial views of the Nallamala forests, the Krishna River, the Srisailam dam and scenic hill temples from a helicopter. The project is being developed in partnership with travel platform EaseMyTrip, which will handle bookings and make the rides more accessible to a wider range of tourists.
Tourism push for Nallamala
The announcement came as the Minister laid the foundation stone for several tourism development projects in the Nallamala region. Together, these projects are worth over Rs 68 crore and aim to transform the area into a nature, wellness and adventure tourism hub.
- Amaragiri island wellness retreat (Rs 45.84 crore): A major upcoming attraction, this retreat will combine eco-tourism with spiritual getaways, making it perfect for travellers seeking peace and rejuvenation.
- Somasila boating point and VIP ghat (Rs 1.60 crore): Facilities for boating and river activities will be upgraded to attract more visitors.
- Development works in Nalamma, Amaragiri Island and Eagalapenta: Focused on improving infrastructure for tourists.
The projects are expected to be completed within the next year.
According to the Minister, the goal is to position Telangana as a tourist destination in its own right rather than just a stopover. The state is preparing to launch campaigns to attract more international tourists while also boosting domestic travel.
Along with heli-tourism, the government is also planning to promote water sports, adventure tourism and cultural experiences, giving visitors many reasons to extend their stay.
For travellers, this means Telangana won’t just be about heritage sites like Warangal or Hyderabad’s Charminar, it will soon offer a mix of adventure, spirituality, wellness and comfort.
A boon for local ecosystem
Local communities in places like Somasila and Amaragiri, which are rich in scenic beauty but often overlooked, are hopeful that the projects will bring more jobs in hospitality, transport and adventure services.
For tourists, the highlight will be the heli-tourism rides. Imagine soaring over lush green forests, river valleys and ancient temples, all in a matter of minutes. What used to be a tiring road trip could soon become a thrilling aerial journey.
With these developments, Telangana is setting itself a target to attract both domestic and international travellers by offering something unique. If the heli-tourism project and wellness retreats come together as planned, the state could soon market itself as a destination where you can pray at temples, relax at wellness retreats and enjoy adventure sports all in one trip.
Telangana is ready to take tourism to the skies, quite literally.
