Kathmandu: A viral video from Nepal showing Indian tourists being confronted for spitting gutka has sparked outrage but what’s surprising is who’s leading the criticism: Indians themselves.

The clip shows a Nepali local stopping a group of tourists after they allegedly spat on a public road. Refusing to let them walk away, he firmly tells them to clean it up, saying, “Yeh India nahi hai bhai…Nepal hai. (This is not India, brother, It’s Nepal.)”

Caught on camera, the tourists appear apologetic, with one repeatedly saying, “Sorry, sorry. We will clean it.”

But the confrontation doesn’t end there. The local goes on to call out their behaviour, saying, “Aap log India se ho…Itna bada desh se aate ho…idhar aake ganda kar diya. (You come from such a big country and then you come here and litter.)”

While the video has gone viral across social media, the reaction from Indian users has stood out. Instead of defending the tourists, many openly criticised them, saying this behaviour is all too common back home.

For many, the incident wasn’t shocking, it was familiar.

One user wrote, “When i was a kid inused to think ki when our generation will grow up things might get a bit better because we are more aware of issues and more logically backed and prepared generation byt i guess everything is toast now silly me.”

Another called for strict penalties, saying, “For real, I suggested this before impose hefty compulsory fines on basic civic sense with mandatory jail time if even a few thousands face penalty everyone will learn civic sense.”

A third comment pointed out the irony, “That guy is still chewing his gutka while being recorded. Utter shamelessness. He will definitely spit again in the account of someone exposing his filthy nature.”

Several users admitted that the problem isn’t limited to tourists abroad. According to many comments, such behaviour is routinely seen in India, often ignored due to weak enforcement and lack of accountability.
