Superstar Rajinikanth expressed his grief over the Karur rally stampede, offering condolences to the families of the deceased
Chennai: Superstar Rajinikanth has conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the tragic stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which resulted in the loss of at least 31 lives.
In a tweet, Rajinikanth expressed his profound sorrow:
"The news of the loss of innocent lives in the incident that occurred in Karur shakes the heart and causes immense grief. My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Comfort to those who were injured."
Background of the tragedy
The incident occurred during a campaign event held by TVK leader Vijay in Karur on Saturday evening. The deceased included children and women, with over 50 people reported to be receiving medical treatment following the incident.
Government response
In response to the tragedy, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin described the incident as "deeply concerning" and ordered officials to provide immediate medical assistance to the victims.
