New Delhi, July 25 (PTI): The Election Commission on Friday named Rajya Sabha Secretary General P C Mody as the returning officer for the upcoming vice presidential election, following the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar earlier this week.
Dhankhar stepped down from the post on Monday evening, citing health concerns, prompting the need for a fresh election to the constitutional office.
In an official statement, the Election Commission announced, “In consultation with the Ministry of Law and Justice and with the consent of the deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha, it has appointed Mody as the returning officer for the vice presidential election, 2025.”
In addition, the Commission designated two officials from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat — Garima Jain, joint secretary, and Vijay Kumar, director — to serve as assistant returning officers for the conduct of the election.
