Although the ED had initially directed Veena to appear on 12 June, she was unable to do so owing to health reasons

Kochi: T. Veena, daughter of Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan, has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to appear at its Kochi office on Wednesday for questioning in connection with the alleged monthly payment case.
Although the ED had initially directed Veena to appear on 12 June, she was unable to do so owing to health reasons. The agency subsequently issued a fresh summons, asking her to appear on 17 June.
The ED rejected Veena’s request to submit documents through her lawyer and insisted on her personal appearance. It is understood that, as of Tuesday, she had not submitted any fresh request seeking a postponement. If she fails to appear on Wednesday as well, the agency is likely to issue another summons.
Veena has been asked to produce documents explaining the payments she allegedly received from the black sand mining company.
Meanwhile, the ED on Tuesday questioned Sharan S. Kartha, Joint Managing Director of the company, and Jaya Kartha, wife of Managing Director S.N. Sashidharan Kartha and a director of CMRL and Empower India Capital Investments.
According to reports, both submitted financial transaction records covering the past 15 years, as sought by the ED during earlier proceedings.
