India`s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train is here! Experience luxury overnight travel with premium comfort. Book your confirmed ticket for faster journeys.

India’s first-ever Vande Bharat Sleeper train begins commercial operations today, ushering in a new era of overnight semi-high-speed rail travel. The Kamakhya–Howrah–Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 17, has already generated massive passenger interest, with tickets selling out within hours of bookings opening.
The new sleeper version of the popular Vande Bharat trains is designed for long-distance overnight travel, offering faster journeys, premium comfort and upgraded onboard facilities.
Route, timing and journey duration
Train number 27576 will depart from Kamakhya at 6.15 pm and reach Howrah at 8.15 am the next day, completing the journey in just 14 hours. The return service will operate on the same route, connecting Assam and West Bengal with improved speed and convenience.
The train consists of 16 coaches and offers three classes of accommodation — First AC, Second AC and Third AC.
Only confirmed ticket holders allowed
Indian Railways has made it clear that only passengers holding confirmed tickets will be allowed to board the Vande Bharat Sleeper train. Those with RAC, waitlisted or partially confirmed tickets will not be permitted to travel on this premium service.
Officials said the rule has been introduced to ensure comfort, safety and a hassle-free travel experience for all passengers.
Ticket cancellation and refund rules
Passengers cancelling their confirmed tickets more than 72 hours before the scheduled departure will receive a refund after a 25% deduction. If tickets are cancelled between 72 hours and eight hours before departure, 50% of the fare will be deducted. No refund will be granted for cancellations made within eight hours of departure.
Railways have advised passengers to plan their journeys carefully due to the strict refund policy.
Onboard catering and meal services
IRCTC will provide catering services as an integral part of the journey. Every passenger will receive a complimentary one-litre Rail Neer packaged drinking water bottle and a newspaper. Freshly prepared meals, including regional options such as Bengali and Assamese dishes, will be served depending on the journey duration between stations.
The catering service aims to offer hygienic, quality food while maintaining consistency across all Vande Bharat services.
Luggage allowance and baggage rules
There is no change in existing Indian Railways luggage norms for the Vande Bharat Sleeper train. Passengers travelling in First AC can carry up to 70 kg of luggage, Second AC passengers up to 50 kg, and Third AC passengers up to 40 kg. Additional luggage within a marginal limit is allowed on payment of extra charges, while excess baggage beyond permissible limits attracts penalties.
Railway officials have advised travellers to adhere strictly to luggage rules to avoid inconvenience.
Premium facilities and onboard comfort
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train features automatic doors, improved coach coupling to reduce jerks, enhanced soundproofing and superior ride quality. Passengers will also be provided with high-quality mill-made linen kits that include a bedsheet, pillow with cover, wool-rich blanket with cover and a hand towel.
These features aim to deliver a hotel-like experience on overnight train journeys.
