Uttarakhand: The Home Department of Uttarakhand has urged the public to disregard misinformation circulating on social media, which falsely claims that outsiders can obtain a domicile certificate (residence certificate) in Uttarakhand simply by registering their marriage under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The government has categorically stated that no such provision exists in the UCC law and that marriage registration or any other UCC-related process has no connection to obtaining domicile status in the state.

In an official statement, the Home Department clarified: "This is a wrong and misleading fact. Marriage or other registration under UCC has no connection with the residence certificate (domicile) of the state, and neither is there any provision in the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to provide a residence certificate of Uttarakhand to any person on the basis of marriage or other registration."

The Uttarakhand government has urged citizens to rely only on official sources for information and avoid spreading or believing in rumours. The Uniform Civil Code, recently implemented in Uttarakhand, aims to bring uniform personal laws across communities, but it does not alter the criteria for state domicile.

Authorities have also warned against intentional misinformation campaigns, stating that strict action may be taken against individuals spreading false narratives about the UCC. The government’s clarification comes amid heightened discussions over the UCC’s implementation, with officials stressing the importance of fact-based communication to prevent unnecessary confusion among the public.
