Srinagar: Two US nationals were detained at Srinagar International Airport on Sunday after security officials reportedly found a satellite phone in their luggage during routine screening, officials said.

The pair were taken into custody for questioning following the discovery, they added.

In India, the use of satellite phones requires prior approval from the Department of Telecommunications, and travellers are required to declare such devices on arrival.

Authorities noted that strict restrictions are in place on satellite communication devices in Jammu and Kashmir due to security concerns, including the potential misuse of such equipment by militant groups for communication.
