Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: In a bold and imaginative venture, two scrap dealers from Ujjain are transforming a decommissioned BSF cargo plane into a luxury aircraft-themed hotel, bringing aviation to the city even before its first airport takes off.

Brothers Virendra and Pushpendra Kushwaha, known locally for their innovative ideas and owners of Ananta Village Farm Stay in Shankarpur, recently acquired a retired BSF aircraft through a government tender process for approximately ₹40 lakh. The massive AVERO VT-EAV cargo plane — 70 feet in length, 100 feet wide, and weighing 20 tonnes — has been transported from Delhi to Ujjain at an additional cost of ₹5.5 lakh.

Rather than dismantling the plane for scrap, the Kushwaha brothers plan to convert it into a five-star luxury hotel experience, complete with five private rooms. The project aims to offer a unique stay for tourists, especially devotees visiting the iconic Mahakaleshwar Temple and the large influx expected during Simhastha 2028.

“In the past, I’ve bought military scrap equipment, but this is the first time we’ve acquired such a large aircraft. Instead of scrapping it, we’re giving it a new life,” said Virendra Kushwaha.

Pushpendra Kushwaha told ANI that he drew inspiration from several aviation-themed restaurants in Haryana — such as Runway 1 in Ambala, Flight of Dreams in Gurugram, and Terminal C in Murthal, Sonipat — and decided to take the concept further by turning the aircraft into a luxury stay experience.

The aircraft will be permanently stationed on their farmland and will be fitted with upscale interiors, aiming to provide guests with the authentic feel of staying inside an actual plane. In addition to overnight accommodation, the site will also be open for visitors interested in aviation-themed photography, including pre-wedding shoots.

“We also drew inspiration from Operation Sindoor and aim to convey a positive message to the spectators and visitors. We want to increase the respect for the army and hence we will take this forward in the same theme,” the brothers said.

The ambitious project is expected to be completed by next year, positioning itself as a major tourist attraction in the city, which is already known for its spiritual significance and historical heritage.

As Ujjain prepares for the launch of its first airport, this grounded aircraft hotel may well become a high-flying highlight for travellers and devotees alike.
