New Delhi: Congress leader Udit Raj has drawn sharp criticism following his remarks on social media questioning the government’s handling of the 2019 Pulwama terror attack investigation.

In a post on X, Udit Raj questioned the government over the lack of clarity on the perpetrators of the Pulwama attack and demanded accountability.

“PM Modi paid tribute to those who lost their lives on the anniversary of the Pulwama attack. Why don't they just tell us where the terrorists came from, who brought them, and where they went after committing the crime? Surely Modi ji must know all this! How can it be that the government has no clue? They should reveal who orchestrated Pulwama! They've turned it into a joke—anyone can sneak in whenever they please, kill, and walk away, and then BJP folks hold candlelight marches to score electoral gains.

Did the families of those killed in Pulwama get justice or not? For those left helpless, what arrangements has the government made? This nation has a right to know,” Udit Raj wrote on X.

The remarks triggered political backlash, with the BJP leaders accusing the Congress leader of politicising a sensitive national security incident.

The Pulwama attack happened on 14 February 2019, when a convoy of vehicles carrying Indian security personnel on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber at Lethapora. The attack killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel as well as the perpetrator.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack on Wednesday, reiterating India’s resolve to fight terrorism in all forms.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Remembering the innocent lives lost in the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack on this day last year. They will never be forgotten. My thoughts are also with the bereaved families as they cope with this loss. As a nation, we stand united in grief and resolve. India will never bow to any form of terror. The heinous designs of terrorists will never succeed."

In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, India launched 'Operation Sindoor' on May 7, 2025, targeting terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). According to official details, Indian armed forces destroyed nine major terror launchpads linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen, and eliminated over 100 terrorists during the operation.

What followed were drone attacks and shelling by Pakistan, which led to a four-day conflict between the two neighbouring countries. India showed formidable defence and conducted retaliatory strikes, destroying Radar installations in Lahore and Radar facilities near Gurjanwala.
