19-year-old Tripura girl from Delhi University goes missing; family finds a handwritten note

New Delhi: A 19-year-old Delhi University student from Tripura, Sneha Debnath, has gone missing under distressing circumstances in the national capital. Her family later discovered a handwritten note in her room, reportedly penned by Sneha, in which she stated her decision to end her life by jumping from Delhi’s Signature Bridge.
According to the letter, she wrote, “I just feel like a failure and burden and it was getting unbearable to live like this.” The letter also stated, “There is no foul play,” adding that her death was “my decision,” as reported by NDTV.
Sneha has been missing for a week now, and this letter has deepened concerns surrounding her disappearance.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has instructed the police to take immediate and appropriate action in the matter.
In a statement posted on its official social media account, the Tripura Chief Minister's Office stated, "The report of Miss Sneha Debnath, a resident of Sabroom, who has reportedly gone missing in New Delhi, has come to the notice of the Chief Minister's Office. Following this, necessary instructions have been promptly issued to the police to take immediate and appropriate action."
Sneha’s disappearance under unclear circumstances in Delhi has triggered prompt action from the Tripura Chief Minister’s Office and an intensive search effort by Delhi Police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
A student of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College under Delhi University, Sneha was last in contact with her family on July 7.
According to her family, she informed her mother that she was going to Sarai Rohilla Railway Station with a friend named Pitunia. Her final phone call was made at 5.56 am.
Worry mounted when her phone was found switched off by 8.45 am. It was later discovered that Pitunia never met Sneha that morning.
A cab driver traced by the family confirmed dropping Sneha near Delhi's Signature Bridge, a location known for safety concerns and poor CCTV coverage. The absence of surveillance footage in the area has severely hampered investigators in reconstructing Sneha's final movements.
On July 9, the Delhi Police Crime Branch, with assistance from the NDRF, conducted an extensive search within a seven-kilometre radius of the Signature Bridge area. However, the search yielded no concrete leads.
Family members remain deeply concerned, noting that Sneha left without any belongings and had not withdrawn money in the past four months. Her bank account remains untouched.
Authorities have issued a public appeal, urging anyone with information about Sneha's whereabouts to come forward. The case remains under active investigation, and the search continues to intensify.
