Tirupati: A tragic accident occurred near Narasingapuram in Chandragiri mandal on Monday when a 108 ambulance lost control and ran over a group of devotees walking to the Sri Venkateswara temple at Tirumala. The mishap claimed the lives of two women and left three others injured.
The deceased have been identified as Pedda Reddamma (40) and Lakshmamma (45), both residents of Champalapalli in Ramasamudram mandal, Annamayya district. The injured devotees were immediately taken to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati for medical treatment.
The devotees were on a pilgrimage, walking from Punganur to Tirumala, when the ambulance, transporting a patient from Madanapalle to Tirupati, veered off and struck them. While the exact cause of the accident remains unclear, police suspect that dense fog in the area may have played a role in the tragedy.
Chandragiri police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are working to ascertain the precise cause of the accident, and further details are awaited.
