Chennai: To ensure maximum participation in the upcoming elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a series of special voter registration camps across Tamil Nadu. The initiative aims to help eligible citizens enroll in the electoral rolls, update their personal details, or correct errors in their registration.
The announcement comes after the draft electoral roll for Tamil Nadu was published on December 19, following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. During this revision, more than 97 lakh names were removed from the draft voter list.
Approximately 66 lakh voters were removed because they had shifted residence.
The remaining deletions were due to reasons such as duplication, death, or ineligibility.
Voters whose names were removed have a one-month window to re-enrol, with January 18, 2026, set as the final date for submitting applications.
Dates and coverage of special camps
The ECI has scheduled four days of special voter registration camps:
Phase 1: Saturday and Sunday, December 27–28
Phase 2: January 3–4, 2026
These camps will be held at all 75,000 polling stations across the state.
How citizens can participate
During the camps, eligible citizens can:
Apply for inclusion in the electoral roll using Form 6
Request corrections in personal details
Apply for transposition of names if they have moved within the constituency
So far, 1,68,825 applications have been received for new voter inclusion since the draft roll was published.
Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik urged all eligible citizens, particularly those removed from the draft list, to take full advantage of the special camps. She emphasised that accurate electoral rolls are vital for free, fair, and inclusive elections.
Assistance at polling stations
Election officials will be present at all polling stations during the camp days to help applicants, verify documents, and process forms. Citizens are also encouraged to check their details online and make any necessary corrections before the final electoral roll is published.
